Translate

Talk in your language. They read theirs.

Chat with friends, family and customers who speak another language. Say it in yours, and Tapy writes it in theirs: fluent, natural and in your tone. The Meaning line shows you what you sent, so nothing gets lost in translation.

When you both have Tapy

Lukas speaks German. Linh speaks Vietnamese. Each picks the other’s language in Translate, then talks and reads in their own.

When only you have Tapy

Copy their message and tap Paste. Tapy translates it for you. Then say your answer, and Tapy writes it in the sender’s language.

Modes

Verbatim or Translate, one tap apart

The keyboard starts in Verbatim. Tap the mode button to switch to Translate. Tap it again to come back.

Verbatim
Keeps every word you say, adding only punctuation and capitals.
Translate
Speak your language, and Tapy writes it in the one you picked. Keep up to three and switch on the keyboard.
Clean
Drops filler words and slips, adds punctuation and formats lists.
Your own
Give it a name and a way of writing, like “Work: polite and brief, for messages to a boss or clients.”

Add Clean or your own modes in the app’s Modes tab, in the order you like. Each tap on the mode button moves down that list.

Put names, brands and work words in the dictionary, and Tapy asks Gemini to spell them your way.

Edit by voice

Hold space to fix it

Hold the space bar and say the change, like “make it 8 instead of 7” or “more polite”. Let go, and the text you just inserted is rewritten.

  • Select some text first to change only that part.
  • Undo brings the old version back. Redo brings the new one.
  • In Translate mode, the new version stays in the target language.
  • Rather tap? Buttons like Shorter, More polite and Fix spelling do the same. Add your own in the app.

Typing

Keys when you need them

Tap ABC for the letter keys. They sit where the iPhone keyboard has them, and a tap between two keys still types a letter.

  • Type Vietnamese with Telex. The VI/EN key turns it on and off.
  • The mic stays in the corner, ready when you want to talk again.
  • Fields that take only digits, like one-time codes or amounts, open a number pad.
  • Typing works without Full Access and without a connection.

The mic

One light shows what the mic is doing

You’ll see it on the keyboard and on the Lock Screen.

Gray: off Your next tap on the mic opens Tapy to start it.
Green: ready Tap the mic and talk.
Red: listening Tap again when you’re done.

Why Tapy opens the first time

iPhone keyboards can’t use the microphone, so the Tapy app listens for the keyboard. The first time you tap the mic, Tapy opens and starts listening. Keep talking, then tap ‹ at the top left to go back to your app.

The mic then stays ready for 5 minutes after you last spoke, or 15 or 60 if you choose. While it’s ready, a tap on the keyboard is enough.

On your Lock Screen

A Live Activity shows the mic on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with a button to turn it off.

iOS also shows its orange dot while the mic is on. Tapy sends nothing until you speak.

Good to know

Tapy needs Allow Full Access

Voice, translation and edits need it, and an internet connection. Without it, Tapy still types, and nothing leaves your iPhone.

Some fields always use the iPhone keyboard

iOS keeps password and phone number fields for its own keyboard. Some apps turn off other keyboards too.

Up to 10 minutes at a time

Each dictation can run up to 10 minutes, and the text comes out in full. At 10 minutes, Tapy stops and writes what you said.

Lost the connection?

Tapy keeps the recording, so you can try again without saying it twice.

Privacy

Where your voice goes

  • Tapy sends your voice only when you speak or ask for an edit. Never when you type.
  • Tapy’s server counts your minutes and stores nothing you say or type.
  • Your history stays on your iPhone for an hour, then deletes itself.
  • No account, no ads, no tracking.
